What We Are
The Westover Parent Teacher Organization is the framework for all the parent-teacher activities at Westover Magnet School. Its main purpose is to coordinate all the parent participation in the school.
Parent volunteers help throughout the school in a variety of different ways by: tutoring students, and assisting in the Media Center. We have Room Parents to communicate with all classroom parents the needs of the teachers. Fundraising, which is a major function on the PTO, includes some annual events such as: the Fall Fundraiser, T-shirt sales, Membership Drive, Bake Sales, Book Fairs, Photo Day and restaurant nights. The funds received from these events are used primarily to support the children's activities, and large expenditures for our children. Past expenditures have included playground equipment, computers, cultural events, and field trips.
The PTO also provides the social and informative programs for parents and children. An important part of the PTO is our involvement in the Parent Action Committee; which serves as a liaison for all concerns relevant to our school and the Board of Education and/or the Superintendent of Schools. Committee Representatives also attend the Citizen Budget Advisory
Committee and all regular Board of Education meetings.
The Westover PTO is also represented on city-wide committees such as The Parent Teacher Council and others as the need arises.
The PTO meets regularly. Any member in attendance may always comment on current activities; bring up an item for discussion; and vote on any subject. |
